Recently homeless recipients of a cash transfer saved an extra $8,172 of public expenditure by spending fewer nights in homeless shelters, more than recuperating the entire cost of the transfer program. Days spent homeless by the group who received cash-transfer dropped from 77% to 49% in the first month. 67% of cash recipients were food secure after 1 month, an increase of 37% from baseline. Recently homeless cash transfer recipients spent 39% less on goods such as alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes.
